Payne Provides The Reinforcement for Paper Manufacturers
Issue Date: 30 November 2009
Leading tear tape specialist Payne is promoting its range of reinforcement tapes to the stationery industry, designed to offer paper manufacturers a cost-effective and versatile means of reinforcing punched holes on paper pads and file dividers at the point of production.
Tear damage is a significant problem in punched paper pads designed for use with ring binders, and the most familiar method of overcoming this is for the user to add a self-adhesive circle label to the paper leaf. Manufacturers however are now recognising the benefit of selling their paper pad products with reinforcement already built-in, enabling them to both add value to the user and enhance their product range.
Using Payne’s self adhesive tape for reinforcement is ideal because it can be easily applied at the point of production, enabling manufacturers to incorporate a reinforcement solution into their existing production lines, quickly and cost effectively. Payne’s range of applicators, combined with extended reel lengths for reduced downtime, can achieve speeds of up to 350m per minute to keep pace with the fastest paper manufacturing line speeds.
In order to meet the specific needs of each paper manufacturer, the reinforcement tapes comprise various options of gauge and material. Higher thicknesses provide greater strength to the finished paper sheet whereas for manufacturers who require enhanced stacking of sheets within the finished pad, the thinner ‘edge’ provided by lower gauges is a better fit.
Stationery paper brands can also benefit from Payne’s proven expertise in manufacturing printed tapes and combine the benefits of paper reinforcement together with branding & communications or security applications. “The integration of highly visual messages or graphics means that the paper brand – as well as the product – is reinforced whenever it is used,” confirms Simon Wildash, Head of Marketing at Payne.
