Thin film breakthrough enhances Payne capability
ISSUE DATE: 8 June 2006
Leading coated films manufacturer Payne has achieved an important breakthrough in its extrusion coating capability with the production of extremely thin layers, enhancing its ability to create bespoke multi-layered coated films for unusual applications. The company’s Banbury site has been working on a number of development projects for niche industrial applications. In each case, the brief required the production of thin extrusion coated layers to ensure that, when built up into a multi-layer film, the final product met challenging thickness requirements. Payne was chosen for its reputation as an innovator in coated film technology, its expertise in high performance films and its commitment to confidentiality and quality.
Payne has used its extensive knowledge of coated film and complementary web handling expertise with that of its raw material suppliers to achieve coating thicknesses as low as 6 microns on a coating line originally specified to coat no less than 20 microns. The Company is developing the technology further in order to support advances in multi-layer films for industrial applications.
“Our recent development work has demonstrated the potential for extrusion coating to be harnessed in exciting new ways,” comments Steve Warne, Film Development Manager at Payne. “It shows how partnerships between forward looking manufacturers can push the boundaries of existing technologies to achieve innovative and technically challenging structures.”
