The generosity of employees at local business Payne has enabled the company to present the When You Wish Upon a Star charity with a cheque for £500.

The Giltbrook-based tear tape manufacturer subscribes to Workplace Giving UK , a simple, efficient and flexible scheme that allows employees to donate to any UK registered charity by a direct, tax-free deduction from their wages.  While employees are free to select their own choice of charity, many prefer to make their donations to a central nominee chosen by Payne.

In 2008, that recipient was When You Wish Upon a Star, a charity specialising in making dreams come true for children with life threatening illnesses for the past 18 years.  More details can be found at: www.whenyouwishuponastar.org.uk.  

Payne added 10% to the employee contributions to make an impressive final total of £500.  Malcolm Waugh, Payne’s Managing Director, presented the cheque to Nicola Brien, the charity’s East Midlands Regional Fundraiser, at Payne’s Long Service Awards, held just before Christmas.

“All children have wishes, but for these children and their families that wish is so much more precious,” comments Nicola Brien.  “The fantastic donation raised by the generosity of Payne’s workers will go towards granting these very special wishes.”

The commitment of Payne employees to Workplace Giving was underlined in 2008 when the company was one of only 24 UK organisations to receive a special ‘Thank You For Giving’ award in recognition for over 20%of the workforce subscribing to the scheme.
