Generosity of Payne's Workforce Recognised

Thank You For Giving

Issue Date: 6 November 2008

Local manufacturer Payne has become one of only 24 UK companies to receive a special ‘Thank You For Giving’ award from Workplace Giving UK in recognition of the generosity of its staff.

Workplace Giving UK is the award winning fundraising organisation promoting and raising awareness of employee giving in the workplace.  Workplace Giving is a simple, efficient and flexible scheme, which allows employees to donate to any UK registered charity by a direct deduction from their wage. All donations given in this way are tax effective so the charity receives both the donation and the tax that the employee would have paid on the amount.

Payne, based in Giltbrook, Nottingham, has been a member of the scheme since December 2005, recognising the value of offering its staff the opportunity to make tax-free donations.  “Our employees have responded brilliantly to the concept of Workplace Giving and have enthusiastically and generously donated to a wide range of charities,” comments Paul Toner, Director of Human Resources at Payne.

The ‘Thank You For Giving’ Award is only granted to companies where over 20% of the workforce contribute.  Payne’s total is currently 26% (41 of 157 employees), who donate over £3000 to 26 charities.   Only 24 companies nationwide have reached this landmark achievement, highlighting the generosity of Payne’s workforce.

Lianne Stevens, Human Resources Officer at Payne, attended the ‘Thank You For Giving’ Reception and Awards ceremony in October to receive Payne’s award from Workplace Giving.

Payne is also lending its support to Workplace Giving UK’s “Geared For Giving” campaign to encourage other UK employers to offer the scheme to their workforces.  “Payne is delighted to support and endorse Workplace Giving,” confirms Paul Toner.  “There is no charge to employers who sign up to the scheme, but a huge benefit to both employees and their nominated charities, so it’s win/win for everybody.”
