The Environment
As a manufacturer of polymer based products, Payne is sensitive to its environmental obligations. Because of this, it has taken steps to limit waste, improve efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of its production facilities. In recognition of this Payne has been awarded ISO14001:2004 status at its Banbury and Nottingham sites.
Payne is fully aware of the progress on the European REACH regulations. To answer common questions asked by our Customers and Suppliers, we have prepared the following statement:
Payne is committed to complying with the requirements of EC Regulation No. 1907/2006 concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (commonly known as REACH). These regulations oblige manufacturers and importers of chemical substances to provide a defined set of information to the recently established European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).
Payne does not manufacture any substances and, under REACH, is classified as a downstream user. It is the responsibility of downstream users to ensure that they only use substances that are registered in accordance with REACH and to ensure that necessary information is passed down the supply chain. The responsibility for registering substances rests with the manufacturer/importer and not with the downstream user. There is an opportunity for manufacturers and importers to pre register substances with ECHA by the deadline of 1 December 2008.
Payne has been seeking assurances from our suppliers that all substances supplied to us will be registered or pre-registered in accordance with REACH (unless the substances in question are exempt from registration). We understand that this will be the case and we will continue to monitor progress towards the deadline of 1st December 2008.
It is also anticipated that Tear Tapes will be classified as ‘articles’ under REACH. The obligations for article producers under REACH have yet to be finalised, and Payne continues to monitor developments to ensure that we comply with the relevant regulations.
