Pre-treatment stage – Corona treatment, gravure primer station & drying unit
Primer can be used to promote adhesion between incompatible layers (i.e. LDPE/PET). Our efficient drying oven allows solvent or water based primers to be used (subject to coat weight). Adhesion may be further improved through Corona treatment of the substrate prior to coating.
Co-extrusion coating stage
The co-extrusion die enables two discrete layers to be precisely applied to the substrate. The content of each layer can be varied by blending up to three polymers through a state of art gravimetric blending system.
A vast array of polyolefin grades can be processed using this technology, with typical layers including LDPE, LDPE/EVA, LDPE/EEA, LDPE/EMA, HDPE, PP, etc. In addition to this, other features include an internal deckling system to process varying web widths and ozone treatment station to further promote adhesion to suitable substrates.
Post-coating stage – In-line slitting & automatic gauge control
A Beta (backscatter) thickness measurement gauge provides constant feedback to the control system allowing automatic regulation of the polymer deposit via the auto-flex die.
In-line slitting provides the facility to edge trim master rolls as they are produced.
Final processing stage – Automatic rewind and secondary corona treatment
A final corona treatment station can be used if required to enhance adhesion upon re-activation at the next processing stage.
Automatic rewind and tension controls are driven by the central web measurement and control system to provide optimum tension throughout the master roll, to aid further conversion and reduce risk of web breaks during coating.
